A delegation of pedagogical experts and teachers from Jeju, South-Korea visited to get insight into the work of HIERD. Dr. Zoltán Pompor, substitute general director of HIERD greeted the delegation of the South-Korean educational office.
Kim Chang-Su, representative of the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Office of Education also greeted the presenters and expressed his joy of being here at HIERD. He also highlighted that the main purpose of their visit is to collect and share good practices and experiences concerning education for democratic citizenship and human rights.
Sára Hatony, advocator at HIERD, continued with a short introduction to the educational system of Hungary, and the several activities of HIERD, emphasising its role in education for democratic citizenship.
Judit Reményi, pedagogical developer, introduced the concept of community service. It is an activity organised by secondary schools, free from financial interest, practised by students individually or as part of a group, and aimed primarily at social or environmental issues to serve students’ local community. Students can participate in healthcare, social services and charity, educational, cultural, environmental protection and nature reservation, disaster recovery, leisure activities with the elder generation or children, people with disabilities, students with special educational needs, crime and accident prevention programmes.
Dr. Attila Varga, senior research fellow at HIERD proceeded with the introduction to the complex pedagogical programmes for sustainable development (eco schools, green kindergartens) and showed good practices and environmental activities of Hungarian schools. He also emphasised that an important thought of these programmes is that without a liveable environment, there’s no liveable society.
The meeting ended with a discussion on the pedagogical programmes.
